melissajm: Cover for Between Worlds, by Melissa Mead, from Double Dragon Publishing (Default)
[personal profile] melissajm
Stopped by the Post Office to mail some packages today, and the gentleman asked us if we wanted stamps...I said we'd just gotten a big roll, and my husband pointed out that I use a lot on manuscripts.

The gentleman said "You're a writer?"

I paused. It's one thing to say that I write, but something else to hear another person call me "a writer." "Yes, I guess so."

"Do you have a book out?"

And the next thing I knew I was writing down Title, Author, Publisher...and HE was thanking ME. I wonder if he'll stop by the Carpe Libris website...

Wow. Somebody I don't know wanted to know about my writing. Wow.

You need business cards with the book title and blurb, plus ordering info! :D

YA!

What she said!

Also....I'd suggest a bill board.....or a small plane with a banner......that's what I'm gonna do I think. I might also hire mafia people as publicists.....

Oh. I like how you think!

*the sound of knuckles cracking and pages whiffling in the breeze carried off the water and over the docks* I see you haven't sold as many copies as you promised. My employer don't take kindly to people who shirk.

*cue screams!*

*hee hee*

Good idea!

BTW, "The Girl With Blueberry Eyes" is yours, isn't it? I just read it. That's my kind of story!

It's in Fantasy Magazine, Issue 6... *rummages for link*

http://wildsidepress.3dcartstores.com/Fantasy-Magazine-6_p_38-121.html

They do post a few stories per issue online, but I'm not sure if this one will be one of them. I do promise that the magazine is shiny, though! :D

Mike offered to make some more of those cards I had at Albacon. Maybe I should bring some to WFC...?

You must have them for WFC. And it's not a bad idea to carry them at all times. I always have a few postcards in my purse for my latest book. Because, as you found out, you just never know when someone will want to know.

I never thought someone would ask! Outside of a con, anyway.

Now I have yet another reason to really want to sell the current WIP-so I can carry around cards with winged serpent-demons on them. ;)

Be my guest! ;) I'd love to see it. I've tried a couple of times, but i'm out of practice and it never quite "clicked." (Plua I tried to do it on the computer, so I could share it, and I'm better with real pencil or pastels.)

I'd need a clear description of his colors (hair and scales). How long is his hair, is it wavy or curly at all?

Don't -- I have a whole stack that I just never mailed to you, that J. made up for the last WFC. Lots got picked up, but she had a lot made, so lots were left over.

Wow, that is so cool! And your husband plugged you ::groan::! They always find a way to take credit don't they? But that is awfully cute, too--funny guy!

The cards do sound like a good idea, especially since you can see how they already would have come in handy. :) Congratulations, also, on saying that you're a writer like that. It does take bravery, somehow.

You should see what he's been doing on the ROF board. He's been on there under another identity, and I had no idea it was him! It's hilarious, especially if you're a Doctor Who fan.

He gave me all the credit-he just made me 'fess up! ;)

Oh, gee, RoF, I haven't been there in ages. I don't know why, I just get onto other things and the past ones get away from me. Now, time is at such a premium that I can't even think of it, but I know it's that way for everyone, so, there you go. :)

My funniest hubby one, was that my story was right in the middle of the magazine. My husband took one look and said, "I always knew I married a centerfold." :)

Of COURSE you're a writer, and good for you for saying so. Words spoken aloud have such power, and there's nothing magical about that. They inform the subconscious (where all the doubt and insecurity flourishes) of the real truth. Brava, sweetheart.

Thanks. ;) I've felt both more and less like a "reak writer" lately, because I haven't written a new story in a long time...but it's because I've been working on the novels. I just don't have much to show for it yet.

I know the feeling. Also, sometimes it's so long between sales, or so long between the sale and the product, that you begin to think you don't write anything, or you're not "real" and then... :-(.

Yeah-I haven't sold much this year at all. I have to keep reminding myself of some of the nice things that people have said about Malak, and that it's almost done, and that it WILL be worth it...

You're real. Check that SFWA card. It says so. ;)
