...but I'm still breaking them. Maybe I'm way off base, but I think it's worth it. I hope.
It is "The Demon Project," after all. ;)

I'm doing two major no-nos, on purpose. I switch POV without a consistant pattern (though always for a reason, and identified early on), and I have two characters with the same name.

Probably stupid, but darn it, I think it's worth it. I hope.

How do you know when the payoff justifies the risk? How do you know if you've got the skill to make it work?

That's been the plan so far, such as it is. ;)
Sometimes I think I'm getting the hang of this writing thing. Other times I think I'm clueless.

As long as it's easy to tell whose POV we're in I've never had a problem with switching, randomly or ordered. Do what works for your story. Rules are only made to be broken. The only way to know if it works is to get it to a crit group or sublit it and see what the results are.

what about "rules are made to be broken" ? :) otherwise everyone would be writing the exact same story. give it a shot!

The book I have out on sub has two characters with the same name. They start off with different but when one dies the other takes her mantle. I wonder(ed) if it will get cut at some point in the process. Rules are good, but breaking them well is better IMO.

In my case one's named after the other-and the original doesn't know it, which is causing some confusion. ;>
