"They say you're a writer..."
Oct. 19th, 2006 05:39 pmI had a wonderful, thought-provoking moment at work this moment.
A new coworker stopped me in the hallway and said "They say you're a writer."
It took me off guard. I write, but..."I AM a writer?" Maybe on Albacon weekend...
I have no illusions of thinking I could do this for a living. I don't WANT to do this for a living. And here was this guy looking at me with the wonder I feel for Real Writers...
"Um, sort of," I stammered. "I'm not famous or anything."
"That doesn't matter. They said you write SF and Fantasy. I love that stuff. They said you wrote a book. How can I get your book?"
I told him. And I sat there for a moment, trying to realign my thinking.
They say I'm a writer.
I wonder if I dare hope that they're right.
